For example,the Richmond Police Department is located at the address below and the non-emergency phone number is 281.342.2849.3 The Richmond Police Department has a records division with one records person. This person is responsible for making sure that all information in reports, citations, arrest reports, and accident reports are accurate and current.

For more information, you can also call the Records Division at 281.750.2590. The cost of obtaining records is $0.10 per page copied and $15 per labor hour, when applicable. If the cost is over $40, you will be provided with an estimate and may be able to negotiate the request.
Some parts of Houston are located in Fort Bend County, although the majority of the city is in neighboring Harris County. Because of this, the Houston Police Department may also be an option for obtaining arrest records.5 The request can be submitted through Houston’s online portal or by email, mail, fax, or in person, but the request must be in writing.

One way to find a person’s Bend County criminal history or other criminal record in Texas is through the Criminal History Name Search on the Texas Department of Public Safety website.
In order to search for this, one must first create an account. Although the account is free to create, a person must purchase search credits for $3.00 each in order to perform any searches.
As with any search, start by gathering as much information as possible prior to conducting the search. This includes the name of the person you are searching for, their date of birth, and as accurate and precise a time period as possible.
In addition to checking criminal histories and prior charges, you can also utilize Fort Bend County public records to find out whether someone has a warrant or is on probation.
You’ll need the same information for these searches, as well, and the Fort Bend County Court System can be a gold mine of information on these types of records.
Review Prior Charges & Criminal Convictions Through the Fort Bend County Public Access Search Tool
In order to find out if someone has any previous charges or convictions, run a free criminal records check to find out more details.
In Fort Bend County, Texas, one can find both felony and misdemeanor criminal records using the Fort Bend County public access page. On this page, you should select the option for a criminal records check, and a search for felonies and misdemeanors will be performed together.
Using the information gathered earlier, such as the name, date of birth, and time period of arrest, you’ll be able to search for felony, misdemeanor, traffic, bonds, and unindicted filings, among other records.
If you know the general time period of the record that you’re searching for, you can narrow it down; however, a time period is not required in order to run the search and you can perform a free criminal record check.
Once you enter the information and run the search, you’ll get results that will give you the name, case number, status, date of filing, and charge(s).
Clicking on the link with the case number will show you the case caption and, if available, any attorneys; a brief description of the person with the record to include gender, race, height, and weight; and any events such as filings and the dates of hearings.
How To Search for Arrest Warrants in Fort Bend County Texas
The Fort Bend, Texas Constable’s Office serves as the custodial agency for certain Fort Bend County warrants, including warrants for traffic offenses, issuance of bad checks under $50, truancy, minors in possession of alcohol or tobacco, failure to appear warrants, theft by check over $50, and class C misdemeanors.7
Warrants are entered into a statewide database accessible to law enforcement agencies. To find out if you have a warrant in Fort Bend County, call the constable’s office at 281-238-1430 or the Justice of the Peace at 281-238-1460.
Warrants may also be checked through the Texas Department of Public Safety; however, that search is not free and requires the purchase of credits.8 Every search will use one credit, which can be purchased for $3.00.
How To Perform a Probation Lookup in Fort Bend County Texas
The most effective way to search for probation in Fort Bend County, Texas is to use the District Court’s Court Case Search tool. This will start you in the same place that you started to complete a criminal history search, and you’ll take the same steps.
Once you’ve entered the information necessary for your search, you can click on the case number, which will take you to a page with more specifics about that case.
After you choose the case number, the middle of the screen will show you “Disposition.” This section will tell you if a person was given probation and, if so, for how long. This will allow the searcher to determine if a person is still on probation.
Because probation has a different name in Fort Bend County, you should also look for phrases like community supervision in looking at records.
In addition to this, the Fort Bend County Probation division is now called the Community Supervision and Corrections Department, and they can also assist with more formal requests and/or if there are any concerns surrounding the subject’s safety or someone else.10 Their contact information is as follows:11

How To Obtain a Background Check Report in Fort Bend County Texas
Personal background checks may be needed for myriad reasons. While employers or housing facilities may perform background checks, with permission, you may also find yourself interested in performing a background check on yourself.
There are several laws that protect and limit the background checks that can be performed. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) limits who can perform a background check and for what purpose – credit bureaus, some medical companies, tenant screening services, and employment purposes.
The FCRA also requires that the consumer must be notified when a report leads to an adverse action, such as being denied housing or not being extended a job offer.
Similarly, the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) both have laws protecting the use of background checks, intended to ensure that they are not used for discriminatory purposes. The FTC also has laws requiring disclosure of unauthorized background checks to the subject of the check.
In terms of housing, the Fair Housing Act protects people from discrimination with anything related to housing.12
One reason for performing a personal background check on yourself may be to see what your report will look like, especially if you have any concerns about your own past or any potential mistakes (for example, a person with the same name as you having their information end up on your background check).
If you need a background check report in Fort Bend County, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Records Division can assist. The Sheriff’s Office will only provide checks of Fort Bend County records, and will not include other counties in Texas, other states, or any federal records.
In order to perform a state-wide background check, there are several Texas agencies that can help with this. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) has staff specifically dedicated to background checks.13
DFPS requires background checks for purchased client services, foster and adoptive homes, kinship homes, DFPS employees, volunteers, and interns, and authorized volunteer organizations and individual volunteers.
Background checks will be required for a person planning to work or volunteer with children, elderly populations, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations.
Additionally, any member of the public can request a background check through DFPS by submitting a notarized Form 2970, a request for a child abuse/neglect central registry check. This form must be submitted in writing and can be mailed, faxed, or emailed.
This form does not give you a complete criminal history background check and will only provide you with a background check relating to abuse or neglect.
The Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Records Division can provide a complete Texas criminal history record to a person for $10 for the fingerprinting service and $15 for the criminal history record information.
In order to complete this background check, a person must make an appointment to be fingerprinted with Identogo and can do so online or by calling +1(888)467-2080. When you arrive for your fingerprint appointment, you should bring a valid photo identification and a method of payment.
Background checks can only be provided for fingerprints that are less than 30 days old, so it is important to make an appointment to get fingerprints taken if you need a background check.
A federal individual background check for personal use is also available through the FBI. These records are only for personal use and cannot be used for employment or licensing purposes. If you are looking for a background check for one of those purposes, you must go through a different channel to receive it.
Much like the Texas Department of Public Safety background check, the FBI check is a fingerprint-based report.
A background check may be used for many different purposes, including fostering or adopting a child, working or volunteering with minors or other vulnerable populations, employment purposes, or just for personal knowledge for yourself.
Having a background check performed can also prove the absence of any type of criminal record or child abuse allegations and can be very beneficial for that purpose as well.
How To Check Criminal Records in Texas via State & Federal Agencies
While Fort Bend County public records can be extremely useful in uncovering someone’s criminal past or present, state and federal agencies and resources are likely to provide supplementary information on a broader scale.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has a criminal conviction search that will allow you to look up the criminal history for anyone in the state of Texas. This search will cost $3.00. As with any criminal history search, the more information you have, the easier and more successful the search will be. You should have at least the full name of the person whose history you are searching for.
If you have a date of birth, location, and time period, you will have an even more successful and easier search.
The Texas Department of Safety also hosts the Texas Public Sex Offender Website. This is the registry that will allow you to search for any registered sex offender by name, address, or institute of higher education. This search is completely free and does not require an account to be made in order to use the search.
The U.S. Department of Justice also hosts the National Sex Offender Public Website, which allows you to search all 50 states, D.C., the U.S. territories, and Indian Country from a single site.16
You may also want to perform a search for federal criminal records. A federal search may be completed using the Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) service. In order to begin searching for this, you’ll need to create a free PACER account.
After creating your Case Search Only account, you can search for any federal case in the United States. Please take note that although creating an account is free, you may have to pay to access the information. Access to case information using PACER is $0.10 per page of information, and the cost for a single document caps at $3.00.
This means that even if your document is greater than 30 pages, you will still pay a maximum of only $3.00. However, if you accrue $30 or less in a given quarter, fees are waived for that quarter.
If you are only searching for a small handful of cases and the results are all only a few pages, it is very likely that you will not be required to pay a fee (according to PACER, 75% of users do not pay a fee in any given quarter).
In order to complete an advanced PACER search for a federal case or history, you must know the name of the party you are searching for (either the full, exact name or the last name only), the case number, and a general date range. A basic search requires only the name of the party involved.
New cases take approximately 24 hours to be searchable, so you may need to wait a day or two before searching for more information in a case that is newly filed such as a recent arrest.
Additionally, you can search for an inmate in a federal prison using the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator. This will give you prison records from 1982 through the present, so you can search and find out whether someone has been in federal prison in the last forty years.
How To View Fort Bend County Court Documents & Cases
Fort Bend County cases can be viewed via the public access viewer. In order to search this, you should know at least the name of a person involved in the case, and any additional information will make it easier to complete a search, such as the type of case or the general date range that the case was filed in court.
You can search cases in probate court, family or civil court, or criminal court using this search system. The court calendar is also publicly available, and displays court dates for users.
Interested parties may also be able to view documents associated with court cases, such as any filings, using this search, if the images are available.

How To Look Up & Obtain Fort Bend County Texas Vital Records (Marriage, Divorce, Birth & Death)
Many vital records can be found through the Fort Bend County Clerk Office’s Online Search Tool. So, if you need to check if someone is married, look for a divorce record, or obtain a birth or death certificate, this is your place to look.
While some information and records are available online, these online copies are not certified copies. If certified copies are needed, the standard cost is $1.00 per page with a $5.00 document certification fee.
However, fees for vital records may be different. A Fort Bend County certificate of death is $21.00 for the first copy and $4.00 for any additional copies ordered at the same time as the first one. A Fort Bend County marriage license search and verification is $21.00, while copies of the license are $7.00.
A birth certificate will cost $23.00. It is also possible to search statewide Texas records for vital statistics and other records in the public records repository.
Access Marriage & Divorce Records via the Fort Bend County Clerk’s Office or Texas Department of State Health Services
Fort Bend County public records include documents pertaining to marriage and divorce, which can be accessed via the Fort Bend County Clerk’s Office.
If you need to check whether someone is married, you can search for a marriage record through the Fort Bend County Clerk’s web access search.
The county clerk’s office can perform the search for the marriage license and provide a copy of the license for $21.00. If the search is already performed and it is verified that the marriage license exists, it is $7.00 for a copy of the marriage license, with an additional $1.00 fee for every page beyond the first one, if the license has multiple pages.
If a court case has been filed seeking a divorce, the clerk’s office may be able to help you find the case and docket and verify whether a Fort Bend County divorce decree has been granted.
A family law case, such as a divorce, can also be searched online using the Fort Bend County case search. You will need the name of the person whose divorce records you are seeking, and additional information such as a time period will also be beneficial in narrowing down the search.
Once you have entered the name, you have the option of selecting what type of case you are searching for. Some of the types of cases that will allow you to search for divorce records are, of course, the two divorce options (with and without children) and the “all other family matters” option. The other family law options are primarily relating to child support and protective orders.
Once you perform the search, you will have the option to click on the docket number for more information. After you select the case that you are looking for and seek more information, there is a section in the middle of the page called “Events and Orders of the Court.”

The Fort Bend County Clerk’s Office can only search for marriages and divorces that occurred in Fort Bend County. The Texas Department of State Health Services, however, does have statewide records of both marriages and divorces.
The marriage and divorce indexes will allow you to search for any marriage or divorce in Texas for verification purposes and will also provide information on the ages of both people involved, where and when the marriage took place, the number of minor children, the date of the marital dissolution, and the county where the divorce decree was filed.19
The indexes are both available to be searched by year. They are in the form of a ZIP drive and may require extraction software to open; however, if you have issues with this, you can contact [email protected]. This is a great option if you need to find out if someone is married (or divorced).
Review or Request Birth or Death Records Through the Fort Bend County Clerk’s Office & Texas Department of State Health Services
You may complete an online search through the Fort Bend County Clerk’s office for both birth and death records.
The Fort Bend County Clerk’s Office can search for both birth and death certificates that occurred and were filed within Fort Bend County.20
The Clerk’s office can also search for state-wide birth records. Birth and death certificates are not considered public records; however, you can apply for a certificate of birth or search for a birth or death certificate that you are authorized to access and order.
You can apply for a copy of a birth or death certificate using certain forms found on the Clerk’s webpage. In order to apply for a copy of a Fort Bend County birth or Fort Bend County death certificate, you will need to fill in the application with as much information as possible and send it in with your payment – $23.00 for a birth certificate and $21.00 for a death certificate. Fort Bend County has both property and tax records that can be accessed through the county clerk’s Web Access site. These public index records include deeds, mortgages, easements, foreclosures, and other property records. There will be multiple options of document type that you can choose from, including by deed. This will give you a record of who has owned the property and who currently owns it. Understanding Your Rights & Using Fort Bend County Public Records Responsibly
Most of the information that you are likely to be searching for is public record, meaning that it is required to be available and accessible to the public.
Criminal records (excluding most juvenile cases), vital statistics, background checks, and property information are all made available to the public under FOIA and the Texas Public Information Act, and are easily accessible and usually free if you know where to look.23, 24 However, while you have a right to access the information, there are some restrictions on how any information found can be used.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC), Fair Housing Act (FHA), and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have restrictions on how background checks can be used, primarily to ensure that they are not used for discriminatory purposes and that the subject of a background check is informed if a background check leads to an adverse action.
While it is possible for a person to perform a personal background check on themselves, a potential employer or housing agency has to follow certain steps and only use the background check for pre-designated purposes.
It is illegal to use public records for illegal purposes (for example, you are not allowed to perform a criminal history check on your neighbor and then use his criminal history to harass or stalk him). You should also use the records you access legally and responsibly.
Birth and death certificates, for example, are not public records, but you can request and order copies of your own birth certificate or a death certificate if you are next of kin for the deceased.
